Joint manipulation is often referred to by Chiropractors as an ‘adjustment’.

This is a gentle, safe and effective technique designed to restore the normal movement to a joint (any joint in the body) that is stuck or not moving properly.

After being assessed by your Chiropractor, they may advise you that one or more joints in your body are restricted in the way they move. If joint manipulation is appropriate for your specific condition they will place your body in a way that will enable the practitioner to place a controlled pressure over the joint to restore its normal range of motion. This is often accompanied by a popping sound. The sound is simply gas bubbles that are released from the fluid within the joint at the time of the manipulation.  Click the link to find out more about the popping sound – http://ed.ted.com/lessons/why-do-your-knuckles-pop-eleanor-nelsen

Please note that not everyone who sees a Chiropractor at South Eastern Active Health will have their joints manipulated/adjusted. This is only one of many techniques that are used in joint therapy and only performed with the patient’s consent and if the practitioner deems it appropriate for the condition being treated.
